CBD and its Advancements in Cellular Health

CBD (Cannabidiol) is a major component of Cannabis Sativa that has biological cellular advancements on human healthy cells. It exercises a vast range of anti-inflammatory properties to regulate the cell cycle and the functions of immune cells. These effects include cell viability, production, movement, apoptosis (a method of cell death to remove unneeded/abnormal cells), and inflammation. Further studies have included the effects on cell lines and primary cell culture from healthy donors with CBD exposure and without CBD exposure as variables. CBD acts as an anti-cancer agent where it slows down tumor progression at various cellular stages. CBD extracts and other cannabinoids have shown broader anti-inflammatory actions through experiments on inflammatory CNS (Central Nervous System) degenerative diseases. Clinical use of CBD with limited psychotropic effects and without psychoactive activity is a safe and effective alternative for neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. CBD targets Mitochondria (organelles) which are known to be the powerhouse of all living cellular organisms and turn energy from food into cellular energy. It has been scientifically proven that CBD has played a part in being a protective molecule for these organelles and assists mitochondria to maintain their function despite any form of cellular disruption. Because of its effects, CBD acts as an antioxidant and neuroprotective against toxins that may prevent mitochondrial functions. Intracellular and mitochondrial calcium concentrations are found to be regulated by CBD. It has been suggested that CBD causes apoptosis in leukemia cells due to its mitochondrial membrane disruption. CBD has the capability to maintain a healthy and balanced immune system. Due to its anti-inflammatory ability, it can assist in the lungs’ respiratory system and support a healthy and balanced intestinal function resulting in overall immunity. Studies have shown that CBD promotes white blood cell production, boosts, and manages the immune response in patients who suffer from autoimmune diseases. Cannabinoids have been used over many years for people suffering from serious illnesses focussing mainly on pain relief and reducing stress. It has been suggested that CBD protects nerve cells and reduces pain because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Its functions may be able to promote new cell generation aside from its ability to reduce cell degeneration.
